Los Artistas

The Spring Semester of the CVA's Los Artistas program, a free Saturday art program for Spanish-speaking teens, will begin on Saturday, January 8, 2011 from 12:30 - 2:30pm.  Participants do not need to register in advance, just show up to class and join in on the fun!

The Los Artistas program provides a community learning environment where the participants are involved in the program structure from lesson plans to field trips to community service projects. Students will gain a better understanding of their cultural heritage as they explore their own visual identity and a place in our community.

Please note: The CVA is still in need of donor support for this program. Contact the CVA Education Office at 336.333.7475 if you are interested in contributing to the Los Artistas program.

Looking to integrate technology and capture students' attention with a terrific hook? Show them a clip from Discovery Education's United Streaming series "One Minute in a Museum?" There are lots of artists and movements represented, like this one on Joan Miro http://player.discoveryeducation.com/index.cfm?guidAssetId=79EE31A1-5DC3-42FE-8945-8760046B9A78&blnFromSearch=1&productcode=US

This is a great short video clip of Eric Carle showing how he created the Very Hungry Caterpillar book. I use it with my kindergarten classes.

Want to introduce weaving to your students in a fun way that helps them to understand the process? Look for 'Charlie Needs a Cloak' video on Discovery Education. I downloaded it to my laptop so that I can connect it to my projector(bought with Art by Me money) and show it on the big screen. The kids love it!!! It's only about 8 minutes long. If you have a long enough computer cable, you can connect your school computer to your projector. Of course you can always just gather kids around your computer or just show it on your TV via the Aver key.
