GCS Youth Art Month Exhibit                                                                                                                           Cultural Arts Center                                                                                                                                                       200 N. Davie Street, Greensboro                                                                                                                                                       March 5  – March 20, 2019

Please read all information below and contact me if you have questions.

This is a great opportunity to give our program visibility and exposure in Guilford County Schools and in the community.  It is a chance for us to educate the community about the high quality of the art curriculum within Guilford County Elementary Schools.  Your participation in this event plays a crucial role in the importance of the arts within the community.  We look forward to seeing your students’ work.

Please follow the guidelines below:

Matting Guidelines

Please do your best to follow these guidelines.  We have managed to fit everyone’s work into the show each year.  If your work is a little over the measurements that is fine. We will have work that is under the measurements and it always seems to balance out.  If you have a large piece that you want to exhibit that is larger than 18” x 24” that is fine but choose another piece that is smaller since you only have a certain amount of display space.

The size:

It is of utmost importance that you adhere to these sizes so that there will be room for every one’s art work. You will be given a 96”x72” space for your mounted artwork, which will fit larger and smaller pieces. Black poster board is 22”x28”, so you will need to cut it down. Your 4 pieces should fit within the 96” x 72” vertical panel.

Small pieces are great because they fill up the empty spaces so well.

  • ·         Mat or mount the work on BLACK poster board with a 1” - 1 1/2” border.  A colored inner border can be used.
  • ·         Poster board is lighter than mat board and hangs more securely on the display panels.
  • ·         Small, similar pieces can be mounted together, but please avoid mounting large pieces on the same piece of poster board.  This makes it difficult to hang the show because this results in small spaces left on the display boards which are hard to fill.
  • ·         Label each artwork using the Guilford County School art label.
  • ·         All work must be able to be mounted on the display panels. (3-dimensional work has been able to be mounted in the past, please use your best judgement. i.e. nothing that protrudes more than inch outward and nothing heavy)

Hanging the Show

  • ·         Hanging the exhibit: Thursday March 5 and Friday March 6, 3:30 – 5pm.  Please bring your already-mounted artwork to the Art Meeting on February 13 (If you are unable to hang it March 5 or 6).  If you forget or need to send artwork later, please courier the artwork to Murphey Traditional Academy, Attention: Tiffany Littlejohn (littlet3@gcsnc.com).  Send no later than Friday, February 28.   (Courier runs on M-W-F)

The YAM committee and volunteers will be hanging the show on

March 5 and March 6 from 3:30pm – 5 pm both days

Taking down the Show

  • We will take down the show on Thursday, March 20 between 3:30 and 5pm.Please come to take down your work or arrange to have another art teacher to do it for you.  It is very important that all students get their work returned to them.  We try to have everything off the display boards by 5, please arrive before then. Any artwork left/not accounted for will be transferred to 501 W Washington St. *talk to Leigh Ann for more information

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and feels renewed and ready for a fantastic year for art.

Happy New Year and for those of you who are new...Welcome and I look forward to seeing everyone and meeting all our new teachers. Just a heads about our annual YAM (Youth Art Month) exhibit. Our elementary art exhibit is during the month of March, and our exhibit takes place in the artium space of at the Cultural Arts Center in downtown Greensboro. Each school is alloted approximately 4 - 18x24 inch spaces. It is always good to start saving student work from the beginning of the school year. So pull and tuck away those special pieces.

Ninette Humber and I will be working together as the YAM Exhibit co-ordinators. We will be sending more information your way as the year progesses.
    Stayed tuned: Katie Armistead
